Sunday, sunny, warm, SW wind

Today my favorite fisherpersons from South Carolina came to fish with me.  We ran right out to the area that we fished Saturday ( 30N x 10E)  Set the lines with —- You guessed it!! MOONSHINES.

We began with the Glow Boody Nose down 42’ the Do-de-k cheated above the Carbon 14 at 50’ and the TNT at 37’.  It did not take long for the rods to begin popping.  Because our clients were in the derby we had already discussed the fact that after each kept 2 fish we would have to release all fish unless it was a derby contender.  Well by 7:30 we were making decisions on which fish to keep and decided to only keep the kings and throw back the steelhead.  Then at 8 am we doubled up, threw back the first fish, a steelhead then as the other fish was coming to the boat I got excited the fish was big, but not a salmon — it was a trophy steelhead.  I kept telling Don, “Don’t you lose it, don’t lose it!!” (not wanting to put any pressure on him).  We finally netted the fish and admired it’s beauty.  We decided to run the fish in and weigh it and since it was only a few minutes after 8 we would come back out and fish close to shore even though the early reports were not good from in there.  We figured we had already landed 8 fish, released half of them we had already had our share of fish.

The Rainbow weighed in at 15.8 pounds and at the time was in 2nd place by one 15.9.

We came back out and set up in 50fow to fish for browns, headed east.  After about 2 miles we began to head to deeper water and look for lake trout.  When we passed 90fow we saw some fish on the bottom.  I knew exactly what they were and quickly changed our rigs.  We made several passes over the fish and landed 5 KINGS in less than an hour!!!  Hot spoons were Do-D-K and Widowmaker and the hot fly was the yellow moonshine behind the WMD echip on a 180’ dipsy.

By 12:30 we were done, we kept the 2 largest Kings to fill out the limit and began cleaning salmon and preparing the Rainbow for transport to the Taxidermist.

Once again we landed 13 fish, most of very good quality (size), every one on a MOONSHINE — Check out the pic of the lures.
