August 11
Saturday, sunny, warm, calm
Due to unfortunate circumstances my clients had to cancel today — BUT there is a derby going on so I decided to fish anyways. I called my neighbor (owed him ‘cause he mows my grass), got my son out of bed and headed to Narby’s so we could enter the derby. We got our derby entries and finally left the dock at 7am.
We headed out to the same area as the day before. I decided that I would run only MOONSHINE LURES because they are a sponsor of mine and no one else was paying me to be out there. WELL……….
We set the lines and trolled for about 20 min. then the MS Glow bloody nose popped –no one home, then the Prototype (We cannot tell you what this lure is or looks like because it is hot and other makers will copy it before MOONSHINE even gets it to the market). The center rigger was mupped up with a Do-de-k above a mag Carbon 14 and the top lure jumped first—another miss. I reset the lure and it popped again with a fish. I reset the lure and it popped again with a fish. I reset the lure and it popped again with a fish. I reset the lure and it popped again with a fish. That is not a typo, as quick as I could get the line back down a fish hit it — I have never seen a hot set up like it in 25 years of fishing!
The Glow—Bloody Nose and the prototype continued to take hits and catch fish. As the sun got brighter we switched to the Bruiser, Purple Nurple and Super-seedless and the action continued!
Dispys were also active with the already proven MOONSHINE spin flys in yellow and green.
We landed 13 fish, including the one below that we weighed into the derby, but more remarkably was the 31 hits that we had in only 4 hours of fishing!!!
