Monday — Partly cloudy, South/West wind calm
Motored out to 170 fow to set up and began a south east troll. The fish were deep ranging from 100 to 120’ down. Right away a big fish the 550’ copper, the rod bent over double, I grabbed the rod and then nothing — I forgot to back the drag off and the fish broke the 25 pound test leader in a split second. I retied and put the rig back out and wham-o another fish hit it — this one Adrian did a fine job bringing this fish to the net.
THEN WE TROLLED AND TROLLED AND TROLLED
Finally at 9:20 a fish hit the 550’ copper again, this time we were several miles north of where we started. Once again Adrian handled the rod well and landed the nice steelhead. Moments later the rod on the center rigger sprang to action and Adrian quickly landed a big 18 pound king. Adrian was pumped — the biggest fish of his life, the biggest fish of the day (so far) and his limit!!! 2 nice kings and a fine steelhead.
The other 5 folks on board had not yet touched a rod and at 10 am the day was half over. I hoped that the action would continue and that it did. The hot rod was a NBK stinger parked ate 65’ that took a hit every 15-20 min for the rest of the day. We quickly added fish to the box and when we took the picture at 1pm we had 11 fish to hang on it plus threw back a 21 inch rainbow.
I was just about to grab the first fish to clean when the port dipsy began to sing, moments later the starboard dipsy did the same. Both of these fish were mature kings and would have looked nice on the board but we already began cleaning. See the photo below. The two big kings were added to the catch after the group photo.
