July 3&4, 2007

The first week of July and I was supposed to be on vacation and in Maine.  However the boss decided that we should use the vacation money (and my time) to tidy up the house and yards (it is amazing what 80 tons of topsoil does to a yard).  After one week of working like a madman I said, “enough, I’m going fishin!”  I called a couple of guys that had helped me with a project and told them to meet me at the boat at 6:30 (don’t like to get up early when on vacation).

We got up there Tuesday, it was bright, sunny and flat, put the rods down and nothing happened.  I started making changes and finally a nice king took a 42 second spoon off the 50 foot rigger.  The next fish hit the purple nurple MOONSHINE on the 200’ copper we missed it then another hit it and we slipped the net under it cleaned the fish and made it home for a late breakfast.

Wednesday

The Forth of July met us with scattered showers and a 1’ chop.  I put out my 6 rod spread and headed north from 40 fow when we hit 125’ the water exploded behind the boat when a big king ate the 42 second spoon down 40’ the fish jumped several times including a leap that easily cleared 10’, spitting the lure in the process.  We were so enamored by the fish that we did not see the starboard rigger pop or the fish thumping on the starboard dipsy.  We boated that fish, reset lines and headed back to the same spot.  When we got there the rods fired again and we were into a double on kings. The fish were on and we were there they kept pounding the MOONSHINE Do-De-K(all three sizes), TNT and Blue Lemon.  We landed half of the 10 fish that hit and made it to the diner by 9:30 for breakfast.
