July 13 pm & 14am
Friday evening — Sunny, warm, West wind with waves 2-3’, calm by sunset.
Left the dock at 3 pm. Headed west into the wind and slowly made our way out to 120 fow. We began to troll north and south between 130 and 160 fow. We quickly found the fish to be deep and soon the rods began to pop. The highlight of the evening was a great 11 pound Steelhead landed by Ray. The fish hit 83 feet down on a Bish’s Bruiser Moonshine and was jumping out of the water before we could get to the rod. With the fish deep, between 80 and 110’ the hot rod was the 550’ copper. The wind died as the evening progressed, it was absolutely beautiful. The crew jumped off the boat with great expectation for the next morning.
Saturday morning—partly sunny, light south breeze waves <1’
We decided on a 5: 30 start and by 5:45 we were in 130 fow where we had left the fish from the night before. By 5: 48 all three riggers were headed down to depths ranging from 65’ to 75’. The third rigger had not even stopped when the first one popped, then the third rigger popped and we were into our first double of the day. The action continued for the next 40 min and by 6:30 we had 6 fish on ice. After cleaning up the boat a bit, and resetting lines we began a big circle. We returned to the 130 fow area and pointed the bow north. When we hit 155 fow the center rigger jumped, followed by the dipsy, then the port outdown, we lost two, got one and then the other dipsy took off and a pair of fish hit both coppers at the same time. We managed to boat 2 of these fish, we now had only one rod still in the water. Once again we did a big circle while we re-rigged, turned it north and guess what? — DITTO! This time we boated 4 out of the six fish and now had 13 fish on ice. We re-rigged, tightened drags and began cleaning fish, boating & releasing a couple more fish in the process. We ended the day landing 15 fish and no one counted the ones that got away.
